hi anybody with mustard allergy, my three old daughter with peanut and egg(we think she may have grown out of this, are waiting for an egg challenge test ) now appears to be allergic to mustard. We had had occasions when she appeared to occasionally get minor reactions around her mouth but could not fiigure out cause then 2 weeks ago i made a stroganof for tea and although she loved it at the end her chin and round her mouth was red and covered in hives(a dose of piriton sorted it) heard its common in europe but rare in uk so just wondering if there is anyone else out there coping with this sarah _________________ manxmother |

hiya,
don't know anyone personally but it is listed on allergyuk as something people are allergic to. Perhaps ask your doc for a test, unless something else in the food could have caused it?

No mustard allergy in our family, but it's one of the top allergens in France - read somewhere that the French are the biggest consumers of mustard in Europe. As a result it's on the list of allergens which have to be listed in ingredient lists even at trace level - at least makes it easier to avoid if you have to.
Is there any possibility that the mustard could have had traces of something else in it? You could try contacting the manufacturer. I did this on one occasion with a Belgian supermarket own-brand chocolate and was told "Sorry, it should say may contain traces of ..." one of the many things my son was allergic to. |
